How is a target-date fund looked through?
A target-date fund holds other funds, so its own filing names no stock. Each fund it holds is found in the same SEC data set by its legal identifier, or by its name inside the trust that files it, and weighed by its share of the target-date fund. That fund's own holdings come from its latest file: an ETF's issuer file of the day, or a mutual fund's SEC filing. A bond fund held counts in the share in bonds, not in any stock. A fund marked partly read holds funds the data set does not let us read, so its share in stocks is a floor.
Each fund held is weighed by its share of the target-date fund in that fund's latest SEC Form N-PORT, and its own holdings are those of its latest file, so the figures mix the two dates each row gives. Bond funds held count in the stock share as nothing. Measurements of public filings, not investment advice.

The list is target-date-funds.json, and each fund's look-through is under look_through in its own answer, such as /api/v1/fund/vfifx.json. An assistant connected to the TickerInside MCP server reads it with get_etf_holdings. Free with credit under CC BY 4.0, like the rest of the API.
