Holdings 201 to 9,063 are in the CSV, and on this page once its script has run.
VXUS brings none of the 10 largest. Its largest holding is Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (2330.TW), 0.82% of the portfolio, 17th largest.
Holdings are counted by ticker: GOOGL and GOOG count as two, and so do ASML in New York and ASML.NL in Amsterdam.
Which pairs hold the same companies?
Overlap by weight of each pair: for every company both ETFs hold, the smaller of its two weights, summed; how much of each ETF is in companies the other holds; and how many they are.
| Pair | Overlap by weight | How much of each is in the other | Holdings in both |
|---|---|---|---|
| VOO / QQQ86 in both; 54.1% of VOO is in QQQ · 92.9% of QQQ is in VOO | 54.0% | 54.1% of VOO is in QQQ · 92.9% of QQQ is in VOO | 86 |

The pair that overlaps most is VOO and QQQ: 54.0% by weight, 86 holdings in both. Issuer files of 2026-08-31 (VOO, VXUS) and 2026-10-13 (QQQ).
Where does the risk come from?
Each ETF's share of the capital and of the risk, and its volatility, from 156 weekly returns to 2026-10-13.
| ETF | Share of capital | Share of risk | Gap | Its own volatility |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| VOOVolatility 14.1% | 60% | 57.8% | -2.2 | 14.1% |
| QQQVolatility 19.4% | 20% | 25.6% | +5.6 | 19.4% |
| VXUSVolatility 14.4% | 20% | 16.5% | -3.5 | 14.4% |
| PortfolioVolatility 14.5% | 100% | 100% | 14.5% |
Share of risk is each ETF's part of the portfolio's variance, so the column adds up to 100%; the gap is the share of risk less the share of capital, in points. Independent bets: 1.1 out of 3 ETFs, the number of equally weighted, uncorrelated ETFs of the same volatility that would give the same diversification; 1 is a single bet. The diversification ratio is the ETFs' volatilities averaged by weight, divided by the portfolio's: 1.05; the independent bets are its square.
How closely did the ETFs move together?
Correlation and covariance of weekly returns, 156 weeks to 2026-10-13.
Correlation, 156 weekly returns
| ETF | VOO | QQQ | VXUS |
|---|---|---|---|
| VOO | 1.00 | 0.95 | 0.76 |
| QQQ | 0.95 | 1.00 | 0.71 |
| VXUS | 0.76 | 0.71 | 1.00 |
Covariance, annualised, in percent squared
| ETF | VOO | QQQ | VXUS |
|---|---|---|---|
| VOO | 200 | 259 | 156 |
| QQQ | 259 | 375 | 197 |
| VXUS | 156 | 197 | 207 |
Divide a covariance by the two volatilities and you get the correlation beside it, which is why both matrices are published. 156 weekly returns to 2026-10-13, the weeks every ETF has.
What did $100 in these ETFs become?
Weekly closing prices, dividends reinvested, 2023-10-20 to 2026-10-13.
$100 split across VOO, QQQ and VXUS at 60%, 20% and 20%, brought back to those weights every week, became $194 over 156 weeks. Its largest fall from a peak was 16.0%, from 2025-02-14 to 2025-04-04. The volatility above is measured on the same weekly returns. Prices through 2026-10-13.
What do the ETFs cost?
These 3 ETFs cost 0.064% a year at these weights: $6.40 a year for every $10,000 invested. QQQ is 20% of the money and 56.3% of the fees.
| ETF | Expense ratio | SEC filing | Share of capital | A year on $10,000 | Share of fees |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| VOO0.03% a year, 2026-04-28 | 0.03% | 2026-04-28 | 60% | $1.80 | 28.1% |
| QQQ0.18% a year, 2025-12-19 | 0.18% | 2025-12-19 | 20% | $3.60 | 56.3% |
| VXUS0.05% a year, 2026-02-27 | 0.05% | 2026-02-27 | 20% | $1.00 | 15.6% |
| Portfolio | 0.064% | 100% | $6.40 | 100% |
Each ETF's expense ratio as its fund file gives it: from its latest SEC filing, dated by that filing, or from market data, undated. The portfolio's is each ratio at the ETF's weight; an ETF's dollars a year are its ratio on its part of $10,000 split at these weights, and its share of the fees is its part of the portfolio's figure. The same figures as expense_ratio in each fund file of the API.
Which sectors and countries?
The whole portfolio: each ETF's breakdown at its weight, on one scale, 0 to 100% of the portfolio.
Sectors
Countries
The sector is found for 94.9% of the stock weight, so 5.0% of the portfolio has no sector found; VXUS has no sector for 25.2% of its weight. A company listed abroad counts under the country of its market, a US-listed company under the United States unless it is Canadian or files with the SEC as a foreign issuer. Issuer files of 2026-08-31 (VOO, VXUS) and 2026-10-13 (QQQ). The same figures as the ETFs you hold in Diversify and the API's diversify answer.
Which ETFs would diversify this portfolio?
Diversify measures how the weekly returns of 30 large US ETFs moved with VOO 60%, QQQ 20% and VXUS 20%, and shows first, in each group, the ETF that moved least with it. It also measures any ETF you name against them: the weight it shares and the correlation.

How these figures are produced
- Holdings underneath
- Each ETF's holdings from its latest file, multiplied by the weight you give the ETF, then added up by ticker and sorted by weight to 0.001 point, as the MCP tool get_etf_portfolio_lookthrough and /api/v1/lookthrough count and sort them. Alphabet's two share classes, GOOGL and GOOG, are two lines, and a company listed in two markets, such as ASML in QQQ and ASML.NL in VXUS, is two lines, so it adds nothing to the overlap of those two ETFs.
- Weights and amounts
- One ETF per line, the ticker then what it is worth. Numbers that add up to 100 are weights in percent, otherwise amounts in any currency, and the Value column gives each company's part of the total in that unit. 40,000, 40 000, 40.000,00 and 40k read the same. An ETF on two lines, as in an export of two accounts, is one ETF with its amounts added. Without numbers every ETF counts equally. The link to a result carries each ETF's weight rounded to 0.01 point, never the amounts, and the result is computed from those weights; the amounts stay in this browser.
- Overlap by weight
- For every company two ETFs both hold, the smaller of its two weights, summed. 100% means the same holdings at the same weights; 0 means no company in common. The share of an ETF is the part of its weight in those companies.
- Share of risk
- Each ETF's part of the portfolio's variance (Euler decomposition), from the covariance of weekly returns over up to three years, annualised, so the column adds up to 100%. Volatility is annualised from weekly returns. The diversification ratio is the ETFs' volatilities averaged by weight, divided by the portfolio's volatility; independent bets are its square; effective holdings are one over the sum of the squared weights. Every ETF needs a year of weekly returns, and the figures are measured on the weeks every ETF has.
- Growth of $100
- Weekly closing prices adjusted for dividends and splits, so dividends count as reinvested. The portfolio is held at the weights given and brought back to them at every weekly close, which is how the volatility is measured: the same weekly returns, on the weeks every ETF has, up to 156. A week ends on its Friday close, or the Thursday when the exchange is shut that Friday, and the last one on the latest close. The largest fall from a peak is measured on those weekly closes. From 5 ETFs the chart draws the portfolio alone.
- Cost
- Each ETF's expense ratio as its fund file gives it, from its latest SEC filing with the date of that filing, or from market data, undated. The portfolio's is each ratio at the ETF's weight.
- Sectors, countries and mega-cap tech
- The same measures as Diversify, each ETF's breakdown at the weight you give it. Mega-cap tech is a fixed list: Apple, Microsoft, Nvidia, Alphabet, Amazon, Meta Platforms, Broadcom and Tesla, every listed class of each. A company's sector is that of the single-sector index funds that hold it, else that of its SEC industry code; when a sector is found for less than 50% of the stock weight, no sector weight is stated. A company listed abroad counts under the country of its market; a US-listed company counts under the United States unless it is Canadian or files with the SEC as a foreign issuer, then under the country of its business address.
- ETFs covered
- The x-ray looks through the 689 ETFs read every weekday night from their issuers' own files and the 1,943 other US stock ETFs from their latest SEC filing, and every answer gives the date of each ETF's holdings. A bond ETF, a trust or an ETF of swaps and futures holds no shares to look through, and the field sets it aside with a note.
- Dates
- Every answer gives the date of each ETF's holdings file, and each ETF links to its page, which shows the file and its source. How every figure on the site is produced.
